At the Boerum Hill School for International Studies (BHS), our Guidance Team supports the whole child by fostering academic achievement, emotional well-being, and college and career readiness. Aligned with the New York City Public Schools’ vision, we are committed to equity, excellence, and preparing every student to thrive in school and beyond.
Our Mission
In partnership with families, teachers, and support staff, our counselors build a safe and inclusive school community where every student is seen, heard, and supported. We believe in developing students’ confidence, self-awareness, and decision-making skills to become lifelong learners and compassionate leaders.
Roles & Responsibilities
The Guidance Team provides:
Academic advising to help students set goals, track progress, and access opportunities aligned with their interests.
Social-emotional counseling that promotes resilience, healthy relationships, and conflict resolution.
Crisis intervention and family support, including referrals to community-based services.
College and career counseling (grades 9–12) to ensure students are prepared for postsecondary success.
Collaboration with educators to support students with IEPs, 504 plans, multilingual needs, or other individual learning profiles.
